I wish
to thank all members who attended the May meeting. Our
detachment is now getting ready for the summer events, so
keep your schedule clear for our programs. We will have our
summer picnic on June 26th at the marina at Lakeridge
Shores, so plan to attend.
Also,
due to the 4th of July holiday, we will not have a July MCL
meeting. Keep recruiting new members, and drive safely this
summer.
Semper Fi,
Fred Vigil, Commandant

Meeting
Minutes for June 7, 2016
Meeting Officially Opened
at 19:33, at the
VFW Post 9211
located at 255 Burris Lane, Reno, NV 89509
Ken did not have correspondence from National MCL; all Ken
got was a recording when he called the National MCL phone
number.
Paymaster’s
Report:
Ken Santor
gave his report, but there were no amounts from Paul Weller
due to Paul not attending the meeting. In May the total
income was $263, and the total expense was $356.03.Any
member wanting more information on the finances, contact
Ken.
Our detachment
had a booth at the Mustang Car Show, held at the Peppermill
Hotel parking lot, but right next to our booth was the VFW
table. Having the VFW table next to our booth, made it
difficult for our sales, since both of the organizations
were selling pretty much the same items. There were a lot of
veterans at the car show, so we did have some sales. Don
Enea brought his new popcorn machine, and made some sales at
the car show.
Report of
League/Family Members in Distress:
David Walker
briefed all on his wife being released from the hospital
where she went to have her broken leg treated. She is now
doing much better.
Report of
Officers:
Fred Vigil reported that his older sister passed a week ago,
and he had driven to California for the funeral. She was 85
years old, and she left behind many good memories for her
family.
Ken Santor and Don Enea briefed all on the cleanup of the
Fernley Cemetery that the detachment did for Memorial Day.
We still need to replace the USMC Division and Air Wing
plaques, and the 155MM gun needs to be re-painted. There
will be NO MCL meeting in July due to the July 4th holiday.

Good of the
League:
Fred Vigil introduced the coordinator for the Devil Pups,
Karl Rodriguez. Next Karl spoke about the Devil Pup program,
and about the candidates who have previously attended, and
those new candidates that will participate this summer at
the end of July. Karl asked each candidate to give a short
talk to the detachment members, which each candidate did. A
short question and answer period followed.
Our detachment members asked several questions, and each
candidate did a fine response with their answers.
As a "Thank You" to our detachment, the Devil Pup group
presented to our detachment a special 60th
Anniversary Book that commemorates the 60 years of the Devil
Pup program. This year's dates for the Camp Pendleton Devil
Pup training are 20 July- 30 July. All the Devil Pups were
invited back to our meeting to give us a report on their
experiences.
Don Enea briefed all members on his effort to secure a field
trip to the USMC Mountain Warfare Training Center at Pickel
Meadows, located outside of Bridgeport. Don has arranged for
a bus from the Fernley Veteran's Coalition, which will hold
about 26 persons. This trip will be an all day event, with
lunch being served at the base mess hall. Plans are to leave
the Reno VFW parking lot at 0700, and to return to Reno by
1700.
The trip must be during the middle of the week, since the
base has the weekend off. A request has been submitted to
allow all members to shop at the base exchange. Please plan
to attend, as this trip is special.
There will be a Gun Show at the Convention Center on July
30-31. Plan to attend if you can, as volunteers will be
needed for set up, and for the show. Contact Don or Ken if
you can make it.
